The Light School is an elementary level school located in one of the most beautiful yet economically poor regions in Eastern Uganda. It is near the village of Kapchorwa and is one of the areas only Christian schools in an area where the main religion is Islam. Founded by native Pastor Leonard Chemutai and his wife Emily, this school has been a light on a hill and has been where many have come to Christ, both students and teachers. The school itself has known extreme poverty and a lack of resources and funds. Because this is a private school, funding must come from an outside source because they do not qualify for government aid.
The two most basic and fundamental needs of the school is the ability to pay the teachers so that they can continue to teach the students and to make sure that the children have a good, nutritious meal in their bellies that will help them to grow and have the strength to fight disease. At minimum, having the funds to do just this will allow the doors of the school to stay open.
WITHOUT these two essentials in place at the school, the reality is that teachers will have to look for work elsewhere. Those who are left will have to go back to not even scraping by as they support their families by what little they can grow in their gardens at home. Children will go back to having only a small cup of porridge during the day and hunger will set in once again.
$1,100 per month will allow us to guarantee a good and nutritious meal of a cup of porridge in the morning and a filling lunch of rice, beans, vegetables, and meat each day.
$1,100 per month will allow us to pay teachers so that they can continue to mentor, disciple, and teach these children that will enable these children to break a generational cycle of poverty so that they can live better lives and bring change and hope to their community.
What You Can Do
Pray. The Bible tells us to let our needs be made known to God and that Christ is our intercessor on our behalf. We know that God cares for each and every one of these children and we need people who will commit to praying on their behalf. Pray that the Lord will save each and every one of these kids and that their parents and community will hear the Gospel message through this school. Pray that the Lord would be glorified and honored through this work. Pray that the physical needs of these kids would be met and that they would be protected from harm.
Give. We need financial support from people like you that will enable the school to continue to function. Your money will go towards paying these teachers and feeding these kids.
